Shaadi Ka Laddoo by Chaitali Hatiskar Book Review
Envisage, A girl chasing a guy on a big giant laddoo and the guy is running haywire to be saved from that Laddoo, but not from that girl. Yes! Men always want to be around a woman, want to love her, want to take care of her and in return, they want the same.
But the thought of marriage or commitments shudders their gooseflesh along with every tissue of their body. But if a man falls in love with a woman truly, madly, deeply then he would do whatever it takes to make her smile and laugh.
Ved is a 29 years old businessman. He always exhaled in his academics and now in his present life, he is creating wonders with his business skills. He is a perfect Indian guy for any bride and her family even if he doesn't hold a government job.
However, it's never enough for his mother, Pinky Arora. It doesn't matter to her if her son is doing great things in his professional life or if he has the characteristics of a handsome, intelligent guy. For her, he is a useless person, as he has never been able to date a single girl in his life so far, and like any typical Indian mother, she is worried about his future if he is not able to settle with a girl soon.
He never dated a girl. He never falls in love. And searching for a partner on matrimonial sites, it seems to him, he is doing some online shopping which is not an appropriate way to find a partner in his view.
He doesn't want to set up things with a stranger whom he barely knows, he never expresses in words but he wants to be in love but it seems an impossible thing for Ved Arora to fall in love with some girl and for that, he needs to meet with one.
But Vaidehi Arora and Pinky Arora ensnared him in their trap by doing some dramatic acts and he got a deadline of 30 days. An ultimatum from Pinky Arora to find a girl for himself in that period or he will have to marry the girl whom she will choose for him. Ved truce with his mother with that sort of agreement, just to get rid of that online shopping for a while.
But his life got upside down in a jiffy when Akira Bajaj the coffee snatcher comes into his life like a tornado and she just doesn't snatch the coffee but soon she snatches the position of Vaidehi. It was Vaidehi who held the position of Ved's biggest enemy but after that encounter, Akira holds that position in the hierarchy of Ved's biggest enemies.
They first argued with their caustic tongue in a deserted restaurant's washroom and things got more violent if Kabir and Vaidehi weren't there to save Akira. Both Akira and Ved along with Kabir and Vaidehi got viral on the internet as a weird couple fighting in the washroom.
From that encounter, things go one after another and Ved is gonna end up in Ludhiana though he takes an oath to never visit that place again in his life he is going there with his whole family along with Akira.
What is Akira doing with him?
Why does Ved hate Ludhiana?
Who is going to eat Shaadi ka Laddoo?
Is it going to be a sweet one or a bitter one?
You guys are guessing it all wrong. Grab a copy and know what exactly happens.
My Review
Whenever I talk or write about this book "Shaadi Ka Laddoo" I get an ear-to-ear smile on my face. So basically I'm smiling while writing this book review; recalling the scenarios of the book.
This book just doesn't have the chucklesome excerpts only but it has that intermittent cozy romance that goes between Ved and Akira which is intriguing. Their romance puts the pause on the chaos which goes all around them in the whole story and lets them dwell in the world of unsaid Love, cuddles, kisses, and hopes.
Shaadi Ka Laddoo by Chaitali Hatiskar is a hilarious story of bonkers who are connected in the form of love and family bonds. The storyline of the book mainly focuses on one's exterior and internal relationship with family and how it's always important to put your family first.
The second highlight of the book is; the storyline of the book which tries to explain to the reader how necessary it is to know your partner before taking big steps in your relationship; you can't rely on attraction or the sake of love only in a long term relationship.
The concept of the book follows typical Indian Bollywood rom-com like; enemies become friends and friends become lovers through all the scenes of this book is new and refreshing and doesn't follow up any cliches. The sarcasm quips, and repartee which goes between Aroras and Ahluwalias are too hysterical.
Most of the time this book Shaadi Ka Laddoo becomes a threat for me as mostly I read this book after midnight and it is very hard for me to surpass my laughter. My eyes got moist while laughing behind my palms.
There is not much emotional scene in this book but personally for me the love of the siblings Ved and Vaidehi are poignant. I felt their bond whenever they showed their love and care for each other.
Every character of the book has its firm characteristics. I didn't feel that any of the characters got sidelined in the book. All the characters have been placed aptly in the scenes and their appearance does justice to the story. I would love to be a part of such a family.
Both the families are flocks of bonkers. Not a single character is gonna get any real hatred from me. Even the anti-hero Abhay and his mother, the goddess of drama and farce Neelu masi, seem awesomely created caricatures and they are hilarious with their demands and acts.
The author Chaitali Hatiskar did a great job with her writing skills. I loved the narration and the language of the book; it's a contemporary and very innovative way of writing which lets a reader enjoy the whole of it.
The mix of desi(Indian) languages; Punjabi and Hindi is suitable and appropriate for the story, but in the bracket, the translation for the languages is a must for those who don't follow the languages. There are some typing and grammar errors which I hope will be fixed soon.
While reading the book Shaadi Ka Laddoo I was thinking, and now really wanting, that the book must adapt for a movie or web series because the story of the book has that potential. If the director won't shove his creativity much into the story and try to present it as it is. Then it's gonna be a super hit movie for sure.
Highly recommend this funny and lovely book to those who love to read or watch the Rom-com genre. Even if you are feeling bored and want to add some chucklesome fun to your reading, then grab this book, you won't regret it.
